Since we hike and travel a lot, and my dog is also a service dog so he comes basically everywhere with me- we carry this first aid kit with us in case there’s ever an emergency!
Here’s what I carry for him:
•Musher’s Secret paw balm- this stuff is great for protecting paws from hot surfaces 🐾
•Snout Screen- literally sunscreen for their snouts 🥹 They also make sunscreen for short haired dogs to put on their bodies bc they’re prone to more sunburns, but since I have an aussie (long haired) we only really need the sunscreen for the snout.
•Bandages, gauze, wraps, bandage tape 🩹
•Diluted hydrogen peroxide, alcohol wipes, vaseline, antibacterial ointment 🧴
•Benadryl, anti diarrheal (liquid) 💊
•Syringe, thermometer, tweezers, mini flashlight 🔦
•Hand sanitizer (for me to use before I put a bandage on him or distribute meds), and baby wipes
•Index card with vet’s information, poison control, and any other emergency info you might need. Since we travel out of state a lot, wherever we’re staying I also write down the nearest emergency vet’s number in case I don’t have service or time to search it up. 🦮🧑⚕️
•Copy of vax forms 📑
Feel free to ask questions about any of the stuff we use! Having this stuff ready on a hike can be critical for helping your dog in an emergency!!
