Tips for visiting a NYC sample sale

I’ve gone to two sample sales and both times I was incredibly intimidated and stressed. I can’t say that it’s really my scene, but that being said, it helps knowing a few tips before entering the sale.

NYC is known for having so many sample sales all the time and it’s not always just for clothes. There are even sample sales for home goods and other miscellaneous things. To find out about some of the best sales, I definitely suggest subscribing to 260 Sample Sale because they have the most in my opinion.

Okay, now to the tips for when you visit your first sample sale.

⏰Arrive early:

I’ve seen people line up for sales like 5+ hours beforehand. The sample sale experts take these super seriously, which means you can always expect long lines of shoppers. Plan your day around the sale and make sure to arrive early (pack snacks, water, external phone charger, etc).

👗Don’t hesitate:

When you get in, you’ll want to do a thorough lap of the place. However, if something catches your eye it’s best to grab it and wait until you finish your lap to see if you want it. It can get competitive in there so you don’t want to risk losing out on an item.

👀Do multiple laps:

The workers will often replenish the floor with more items as people start to clear out the racks. Do several laps to make sure you haven’t missed anything.

🔎Analyze your items:

Be sure to look over your item for any wear & tear all over your item. You get discounted prices at sample sales, but you can still end up paying a lot of money. Make sure your item is good to go before you open that wallet.
