when fight/flight becomes your chronic state of being, it ends up causing a negative domino effect in your life ⤵️
❤️🩹 constant anxiety
❤️🩹 inability to rest or relax
❤️🩹 poor digestion
❤️🩹 compromised immune system
❤️🩹 shallow breathing
❤️🩹 extreme burnout
fight/flight as a chronic state of being might be caused by ⤵️
✅ unresolved trauma
✅ fixation on the past or future
✅ financial or housing insecurity
✅ incompatible or abusive partners
✅ a fearful outlook on life
how fight/flight works ⤵️
when the body senses a threat, it goes on high alert, and the adrenal glands release hormones like adrenaline and cortisol - adrenaline makes the heart beat faster, causes blood pressure to go up, and gives you more short term energy 📈 preparing your body to act in defense, or flee the situation
for me, fight/flight was my entire state of being until about 3 years ago. i had no idea another way of living even existed until i someone pointed out that my natural state was a little….high strung 😅 to say the least
after over a decade of hardwiring for fear in my mind, i still revert to that state sometimes. even if you think you’re long past it, fight/flight can be easily triggered 🤍
⭐️ “fun” fact: as a biological adaptation for safety, the brain is designed to remember and reinforce fear states as opposed to joy or calmness
things that might prompt your fight/flight response:
➡️ big life changes
➡️ loud noises
➡️ unhealthy habits
➡️ emotional fears
➡️ being at a crossroads
➡️ bad company
when it comes to it’s natural function (to keep us safe) fight/flight is great to have! but when it becomes chronic, that’s when real problems (physical and mental) start to pop up
