How often should I clean my makeup brushes?

I'm pretty into doing makeup, especially for events and gatherings with friends and family. But here's the thing - I've been using the same makeup brushes for a while now, and it got me thinking: am I being unsanitary by not cleaning them frequently enough?

I mean, I know hygiene is super important, especially when it comes to stuff like makeup. But I'm not sure how often I should be cleaning my brushes. Should I be doing it every day? Every week? I could really use some guidance on this.
