LDR is hard. there’s no way around it, so to all my homies out there who are away from their significant others this valentine’s - save this, because this one’s for you.

✅ SET UP RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

• sounds very formal but it’s important!

• with you guys being apart, it’s easy to let things fester or slip under the radar

• so set simple rules for yourselves, like never going to bed angry, or even taking pictures of your own meals to send to each other everyday

• it doesn’t have to be complicated, just things to ensure communication doesn’t breakdown between borders

🥰 REGULAR TIME TOGETHER

• time over zoom or facetime is STILL time together

• set regular dates according to your schedules

• this gives yall something to look forward to and keeps the romance alive

🫶🏼 TAKE TIME OUT FOR YOURSELF

• instead of pining for your s/o, why not take time out to do things you love!

• grow and become the best version of yourself! contrary to popular belief, relationships don’t work with 2 HALVES coming together. you both need to be 2 whole’s sharing their lives with one another!

👣 PLAN THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO

• make a #bucketlist of things to look forward to for when you both come back to each other! whether it’s places, things to eat or even a show watchlist, it’s always good to have something to look forward to

⚠️ ACKNOWLEDGE THAT LDR IS HARD

• … because it really is. not being able to hug the person or have them by your side is difficult! trust me, i very much relate.

• holding to optimistic a view can backfire, so acknowledge together that what you’re going through is not easy and provide each other with open avenues of support

• assure one another that you guys will get through this together!

and there you have it! of course this works differently for every couple, these are just things that have been helping my boyfriend and i! relationships are complicated and require a lot of time and work, so do something special for your significant other, even if they are 10,000km away. 😌
