Let me know what else you want to know about my Study

Abroad experience!

💰What is the Pell Grant?

The Pell Grant is a grant fund from the government that rewards up to $7,395 to undergraduate students to demonstrate extreme financial need. Only 11% of my schools student body are recipients (about 2,000 students!). I am one of those recipients and I am very fortunate to have this experience!

✈️My Study Abroad Tips (in detail)

✨1. Satellite campus

Look into if your campus has a satellite campus! A satellite campus is an abroad campus that is still attached to your school. So I pay the same in state tuition with my merit scholarships and financial aid. This has been the cheapest semester for me so far because of all of the study abroad scholarships and grants I have received!

✨2. Budgeting

I budgeted two “bigger trips” for myself, Nice and London. The rest of my money is for food, necessities, and emergency situations. Additionally I have already set up a budget for next semester so I can be prepared!

✨3. Staying true to my “no buy list”.

I have a list of things I am not allowed to buy while here because I don’t need to! Some examples include mugs, clothes, anything I can’t immediately figure out how to get home, and anything online.

✨4. Going on every school sponsored trip I can.

My school has an alumni fund that sponsors “discovery tours” where we go on free day trips. This is me in The Hague for free with a HUGE paid dinner! This trip could never be in my budget. Take every free opportunity you have access to! Even if they are particularly interesting to you, this is what you’re studying abroad for!

✨5. Abusing the school credit card

If it’s on the school then I am running up the bill!! My school makes so much money off my broke ass they can afford a large lunch.

✨6. Being thrifty

If I can take food from anywhere I will! And I get creative with this lol. Additionally, I travel groups because group tickets are usually cheaper, I always order the cheapest item on the menu, and I only spend money on things other than food on the weekends.

✨7. Going to any and all events with free food

Food has been the most expensive thing aside from travel. If there is free food I will be the first in like with Tupperware. This also has encouraged me to try more local dishes that I would not have been drawn towards!
