hey guys! i see tons of posts on lemon8 about weight loss, and whilst it’s super good to be active i wanted to switch the narrative to discus why i personally am not currently focused on losing weight and why that’s totally ok! women are constantly being told how their body should look and in honour of #CelebrateWomen i wanted to explain how a number on the scale should not be your number one focus.

i wanna start off by saying there are tons of reasons that can explain why you aren’t losing weight and if you’re concerned about them, definitely check with a doctor or specialist to voice your concerns. if losing weight is your goal, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that and there shouldn’t be boundaries stopping you from achieving your goals! i’m just here to talk about my personal journey🤍

over the past two months since starting 2023, my new year’s resolution was very typical: lose weight, become active, eat healthy etc etc. and whilst i have stuck to them, my mindset has evolved completely. in two months of consistent exercise i haven’t lost any weight and initially i was bummed (yeah i know i shouldn’t have expected overnight results but still!!!). after the first month, even though i hadn’t lost weight i felt completely transformed and wanted to share the process with you:

1) my body does LOOK different. that’s what i’ve been prioritising: looking and feeling good rather than a number on a scale. i look more toned, more active and feel 100x better. i feel more confident looking at myself in the mirror and that’s the most important thing for me.

2) i started to love this new active lifestyle: the first month is definitely the hardest but once you push through it, it becomes so easy to get up and get moving because you’re body and mind recognises how good you’re starting to feel. i was excited to exercise consistently for the first time in 3 years!

3) most importantly, i needed time to figure out what works for me: whether this means working in your schedule, or working for your body, you need to figure out your own personal routine. i wish i was a girl that could go to #spinclass multiple times a week but instead i fell in LOVE with #barre and #pilates so that’s been the biggest focus in my exercise regime, because my body loves it! i also love lower intensity workouts such as 3-12-30 on a treadmill, and simply making sure i get 10k steps in a day.

with all this being said, i do still hope i can lose weight in the coming months, but i’m not focused on that at all. i love how my body feels and i love how it’s rewarding me! i’m less bloated, less lethargic and overall happier to be waking up in the morning (which i missed so much).

hopefully this helps some of you! don’t be put off by a lack of change on the scales, focus on how you’re body feels.
