Finding a new job can be stressful and overwhelming. Between the time it takes to actually apply, creating or updating your resume and cover letter, preparing for interviews, etc. But Iโ€™ve applied to over 100+ jobs in my career and have gone on plenty of interviews, so here are a few tips that Iโ€™ve gathered through research as well as things that have helped me in real situations.

1. Resume + Cover Letter: This is what is going to make you stand out from all of the other applicants and land you the initial interview so you want to make it exciting to look at, while still being professional. My trick is that I always use canva. Everyone uses Microsoft Word or Google for resume templates, but the ones on Canva allow you to be so much more creative and really stand out. If you can, try to keep it to one page and ensure that all of the positions are relevant to the one youโ€™re applying to. I always like to ensure that the heading of my resume and cover letter match, just to make everything look as uniform and professional as possible. Another tip: include the position youโ€™re applying for on the resume so that the employer already sees you in that role.

2. Keep an excel file of the jobs you apply for. Include the title, company, the date you applied and any additional notes as well. When youโ€™re job hunting, the positions can start to blend together, but you want to be able to follow up if needed and keep track of what youโ€™re applying to.

3. Interviewing: When you finally land the interview, now you need to prepare! I like to take the job description of the position Iโ€™m applying for and write down examples and experience for each responsibility. Additionally, when the interviewer asks you questions, itโ€™s okay to stop, think and collect your thoughts to ensure youโ€™re answering the question precisely and not rambling. The Self Made Millennial on Youtube and Tik Tok has every interview question you could think of and ways to prepare how to answer each one!

4. Do your research! On the company, the hiring managers, the history of the company and anything else you can learn. Using key information during your interview shows that youโ€™ve put the time in and you genuinely care about the situation.

Applying for jobs is stressful, but preparing as much as possible will only help you and set you apart from everyone else! I also always like to tell myself that everything happens for a reason. What is meant for you will not miss you and what misses you, was not meant for you!
