SAGANO ROMANTIC TRAIN RIDE | things to do in kyoto

one of the activities I did in kyoto was to ride the romantic train ride 🤍

the sagano romantic train ride is a sightseeing train that brings you from saga to kameoka and vice versa 🤭 for us, we felt that saga was too far away so we actually took the train when it was at arashiyama stop that is located inside the forest!! you can buy your tickets there during non-peak days but recommended to get it in advance if you are going during popular seasons like the cherry blossom 👀 and please do not make the same mistake as me, the ‘Sagano Rich’ carriage is the one that allow you to enjoy the scenery in the open and not the normal carriage that is sheltered.

🚂the ride:

the whole ride took about 20 mins and you could see the trees on the hill/mountain? for us, as it was the transition period from winter to spring, most of the trees were bare but was still quite pretty 🥹 and you could see the stream too !! a nice ride to start your day in kyoto and also a chance for you and your trip buddies to enjoy the scenery and chill!

and especially with autumn/cherry blossoms, the whole ride is an insta worthy and also aesthetic picture to take ✨ literally had my camera out for the whole train ride even tho it was the same thing after awhile HAHA

🫧end of the ride:

when you reach the end, you could either take the train back to kyoto or walk to the JR Umahori station at kameoka station. Walking to the JR station was around 15 mins and along the way could even take some nice pictures at the field! the ride from JR Umahori to JR Arashiyama was only 200+ yen as compared to the train ticket that is 880 yen

this is the activity I really recommend in kyoto because it is so scenic and an experience that you won’t get it elsewhere!
