SAVE $x00s by DIY-ing Wedding Deco but STRESS! 😩

Today I’m sharing about my experience DIY-ing my wedding reception decoration. If you’ve been involved in / are currently planning for a wedding, you might already know that engaging vendors are EXPENSIVE!

I remember seeing quotes above $500 for a setup of gallery photo stands + a basic reception table decoration, and not being able to justify that cost 🥹🥲 so I took matters into my own hands!!

📝 What I did:

• Picked ideas off vendor’s catalogues and conceptualised a plan based on my venue - given that my venue had a large space, I decided to have some photo gallery stands, and a reception table

• Sourced for materials from Carousell (purchased cheaper items second-hand!) An alternative would be Taobao - I saw many pretty deco items on there!

• Purchased A LOT of faux flowers to fill the in the empty spaces. I cannot recommend this enough! Flowers really help to elevate the entire setup.

• Organised and stored items in groups to be easily accessible! This is especially important for your helpers to locate where items are. It’s also essential to have sufficient boxes for ease of transport.

• Brief your helpers well! In my case, I arranged for a demo day to have everything set up to let my bridal team visualise the final outcome. Also, assign roles

to your helpers for specific tasks.

💭 Things to consider:

• Don’t over-commit! Remember that setting up takes a lot of time and planning, so keep it minimal.

• Effort vs impact - your guests probably won’t remember your wedding for the decor. Besides, your guests would only spend 15-30 minutes max at the cocktail reception. Don’t stress out about it!

• You won’t have time to help out with the decorations on your big day, with so many things clawing for your attention. Rely on your helpers and trust them to do a good job!

• Remember, you still have to sell the decorations and it takes more effort and time :’) it’s been a year after my wedding and I still haven’t cleared them all.

Overall, decorations shouldn’t something you fret over too much. While you can save quite a bit of $$ from DIY, you may be better off paying for a vendor to do a basic set up. If I could go back in time, I would engage someone to help with this and just have something ticked off my list 😅
