3A license in a month ?!

Wanting to pass your class 3A license as soon as possible? Here’s what I did!

FYI: I took my license in BBDC ✨

My journey started back in February when I decided to enrol myself in class 3A.

Booking of practical slots:

I didn’t camp for try-sell slots as I figured that there were bots that can assess the website faster than me, this also saved me from staying up countless nights! I booked the 20 slots (maximum for 3A) (non-fixed instructor) during my school holidays and I spaced it out between August and September, with most of the days having 3 practical sessions 🫠

Here are the timings!

- 0920 to 1100

- 1130 to 1310

- 1520 to 1700

While booking, do take note that after you complete stage 1, you can book for your Traffic Police Driving Simulator 1-3 and Driving Simulator. After the completion of stage 2, you can then book the last theory lesson, PPL 5.01, you need to complete this before you reach stage 4!! If you’re planning to cramp back to back to back lessons like me, do space a few days out as buffer so that you can attend your simulator and theory classes!

Practical class:

Lesson 1 -> 1.01 - 1.04

My first time sitting in the driver’s seat! This lesson is basically about familiarising yourself with the functions of the car, eg. adjusting your seats, mirrors, buttons.

My instructor was nice and he let me drive around the circuit in circles for me to get a feel of it and it went smoothly!

Lesson 2 -> 1.05 - 1.08

I went out onto the road and the traffic wasn’t too heavy as it was still in the morning, I managed to speed my vehicle up to about 60km/h and maintained it!! Of course with a higher speed, you’ll need to know how to brake early so that you don’t beat any of the traffic lights 😄

Lesson 3 -> 1.09 - 1.11

This lesson is about the same as the previous one, only with an added review on all the stages prior.

Lesson 4 -> 2.01 - 2.03

This lesson was more about lane changing and keeping within my lanes! Do remember to slow down to about 20km/h when making sharper turn or going up a hump!

Lesson 5 -> 2.04 - 2.05

Right turns are honestly quite daunting.. what if the car on the left hit me? What if I hit the divider? 🫠 Always keep an eye out on the divider and try to place your car just a little to the left of it! If there is a road marking, do make use of it as well!

Lesson 6 -> 2.06 - 2.08

Finally.. U-turns.. once you’re about to move off, do not turn the steering wheel too hard or your whole car will shake!! Try to maintain a steady and slow speed, once you’re nearing the end of the manoeuvre, straighten the wheel!!

Lesson 7 -> 2.09 - 2.11

Similar to the last stages of stage 1, this lesson was just to review everything that I’ve learnt so far

Lesson 8 -> 3.01 - 3.03

I’m finally in the circuit! Do take note that you should go slow as there are many learners around and anything can happen! Lucky for me, my instructor randomly asked me to try to negotiate the crank and “S” course without teaching me, so thankful that I did it based off feel 🤣

Lesson 9 -> 3.04 - 3.05

Hated this lesson so much, not about the circuit, but the instructor, he was sleeping/ dozing off for like 3/4 of the time. I had to go around the circuit 3-4 rounds just for him to tell me which number to head towards.. 🤬 when I asked him if I can try some courses, he said “no instructions go straight” 🤯

Lesson 10 -> 3.06 - 3.07

Same instructor as the previous.. hated him but I’ll still listen so that I can pass..

Lesson 11 -> 3.08 - 3.11

Last lesson of stage 3!! same as all final lessons of the stage, review all stages prior!

Lesson 12 -> 4.01 - 5.01

Although theres no stage 4 and 5 in the handbook, its more of practicing the test routes and evaluation, this instructor went told me to pretend that it was a test and instructed me to go about the courses, i ended up with 8 points in the circuit as I didn’t check my rear before reversing twice 🤣

TP Test:

I managed to get a slot one month after my final practical slot, unfortunately the earliest was on a friday afternoon and I decided to just YOLO!

Do remember you can head down to BBDC to ask for revision slots if you want to revise before your test!

On the day of my test, the tester called out to me and I brought him to my car, he seemed chill and didn’t say much while I was in the circuit, my heart was pounding!! I witnessed at least 2 private learners having their IFs as they mounted the kerb.. luckily I chose school!

During my road test, I anticipated a U-turn coming up and switched to the center lane, the tester then questioned why I lane changed without his instruction, this gave me 4 points.. and my speed wasn’t as fast on the road.. another 2 points..

Overall I had 6 demerit points!! which means 0 for my circuit!!
