Survival Guide for Women in Engineering

As some of you know, I’m currently majoring in Civil Engineering! Being a woman in engineering isn’t easy and especially not easy in a male dominated field such as the construction world. Here are some tips that have kept me going through my time as a engineering student:)

🩷 Don’t take any unfair treatment for being a woman. If you feel you’re not being treated equally, speak up!

🩷 Try and join a professional organization such as IEEE Women In Engineering, or SWE Society of Women Engineers

🩷 Look into getting a mentor. Try to get two, both a male and a female to help answer the questions that will arise throughout your education. It might be that your problem is one shared by all engineers and not just women!

🩷 Remember that the barriers in engineering are shared by women in all walks of life, so don’t give up on your ambitions and aspirations!

🩷 Always stick true to you and NEVER change yourself to accommodate to the men in the field.
