The most I’ve ever hiked was the 10km route at Macritchie…so doing the Tour du Mont Blanc, a 165km hike with 10km of ascent/descent was slightly crazy🤡

Anyway, here’s my experience hiking in the mountains for 7 days and what I learnt~

1) pack LIGHT🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

There’s definitely a temptation to pack lots of things so you’ll have enough clothes, food etc. But don’t overpack bc the weight will rlly kill you especially during the ascent. By the second day I was dying and had to throw out some extra stuff to lighten my load.

One thing I did was to bring lots of energy gels which saved space. Also try to carry only one bag, the more things you have to carry the harder it is to climb.

2) read maps🧭

sadly you probably won’t get any signal up in the mountains so google maps is a no go :( luckily my friends were able to read maps so we could navigate and plan our route

3) have some thick layers for the night🥶

Not me thinking a set of long pants and t shirt was enough for the night…. I would advise wearing heat tech and a jacket to sleep, it gets super cold when you’re high up, even during the summer

4) enjoy the views😎

I feel like there were times we were all so caught up w finishing the route fast that we didn’t get the chance to admire the scenery. But tbh that’s such a waste bc one of the main highlights of hiking is to experience nature and sights we don’t usually see! So take some time to break and enjoy some breathtaking views heh
