Prepping Potatoes + PLANTING TIPS!

We are late to planting our potatoes….but hey, better late than never right? 😅

We have 10-15 gallon plastic containers we are putting our potatoes in. My husband picked up some seed potatoes from Menards but honestly, you can just keep some potatoes from the grocery store and let them sprout. BUT- you never know if they were sprayed with a sprout inhibitor if you do it that way. That’s why we preferred buying seed potatoes.

Fun facts about potatoes:

•Potatoes prefer looser soil-they do not like compact soil. Lots of peat moss is a great option ✨

•Potatoes need potassium. It’s essential for bigger/more potatoes

•Potatoes do great in containers and it eliminates having to dig for potatoes-plus you get to control and customize your soil.

Prepping your potatoes.

You could plant a whole potato if it has a “eye” on it aka a sprout. But, you get more bang for your buck if you cut your potato wherever there is an eye. You could get 3 plants from one potato that way!

After you cut your potatoes-let them sit in room temp for 2-3 days before planting.

Then, plant them eye up! You can mix in some potassium and organic fertilizer and you’re good to go! ✨
