CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words are important building blocks for early readers. These words are easy to decode and can help young readers gain confidence and fluency.

Activity: Making Words ✨

Materials ✂️📚✏️

-Different consonant cards

-One vowel-consonant card

Instructions:

1. Start by introducing CVC words and explaining that they are made up of a consonant, a vowel, and another consonant. Give some examples, such as “sat,” “bat,” and “mat.”

2. Show the CVC word cards to the child and have them practice saying the words out loud. Help them sound out the words if needed.

3. Separate the consonant card from the vowel consonant card.

4. Encourage the child to sound out each of the words with their finger before blending it.

5. If the child is struggling with any particular CVC words, spend extra time practicing those words before continuing the activity.
