2 and a half months ago I found out I was being cheated on. Being cheated on has honestly the most painful thing I have ever gone through. While I am nowhere near completely healed, I am finally doing a lot better so here’s what i’ve learned.

1. Understanding that it’s not your fault is so hard but it truly is never your fault. You are fearfully and wonderfully made and you are enough. You weren’t lacking anything but that other person was lacking everything.

2. Spend time doing things that fill your cup. I have started volunteering twice a week and this has really been a great distraction for me.

3. Finding new interests and hobbies. This can be tough but finding new things you can enjoy in your new life can make you start to feel whole again.

4. Spend time with people that support you endlessly. Really use this time to lean on your friends and family that love you for help and support. Don’t be embarrassed or afraid to talk about what you are going through with people you trust.

5. Limit contact. This has been so hard for me but the moment I went little to no contact my healing journey took a turn for the best. After that I was finally able to start picking up the pieces of my life and move forward.

6. Set new goals! This is so important because you realize you can achieve things you never thought possible as a single person. I set a goal to have a 4.0 semester and to go to the gym 4 days a week consistently. This is tough especially since I already have a busy schedule but it really gives you something to look forward to and work towards.

7. Plan and do fun things! Planning fun things with people you love not only gives you something to look forward to but it is a reminder that life goes on with or without this person and you will be ok! It is a break from the sadness and heartbreak. Football weekends have been one of the things that have been so fun for me since the breakup and I am so grateful to have people that surround me constant encouraging me to live my best life!
