Popular exfoliants that didn’t work for me

Here’s my first post & it’s all about popular exfoliants that didn’t work out for my skin. Tbh when you figure an exfoliant ain’t it you can tell from like the first couple of times you use it (often burning sensations, harsh stinging, prolonged redness and breakouts right after etc)

The Inkey List Lactic Acid

- Mild to moderate stinging (most intense at my cheek area)

- Leaves a slippery film even after just using a cotton pad with this to swipe across my face once

- Everything else applied after using this just slides off my face & didn’t entirely sink into my skin

- Woke up to multiple zits on my cheeks after using this 🙃

- My mum’s skin tolerates this one so good for her

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

- Stung & burned my face like no tomorrow

- Back then I was convinced “if it burns, it works” 😩

- Made my skin red AF, sensitized and I broke out more

- I don’t know how I saw some people on my TikTok use this in the morning… resilient skin or whatever 😵

- I repurposed this & used this as a deodorant for my underarms, this is actually a great alternative & brightening solution 😂

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

- Everyone swears by this whereas I LOVE the gel version instead

- This didn’t sting but it was just a greasy mess (similar to the lactic acid one) 😐

- Anything layered on top of this ends up sitting on top of my skin (doesn’t happen mostly) & end up transferring all onto my pillow

- Definitely did purge & noticed decreased sebum production at the end of the day but that’s all there was to it… no nothing after using this full thing (lasted me a good 2 months+)

Welp as much as I hoped these would work on my skin like how they worked for many others, these really just made my skin cry out loud for help. Goes to show that not all exfoliants are made for everyone’s different skin type. Let me know if these were hits or misses for you!
