The Ups and Downs of NOT Dating in High School 🙊❤️‍🩹

When I was younger, I was CONVINCED I was into older men (I am lol) and so I knew I couldn’t go after them. Boys my age just didn’t interest me in the slightest so I ended up not dating until I was 18 and met Jacob who was 23 I believe? But since Jacob, there’s only been 2 others. And I’m currently 24.

So here’s the Pros and Cons I’ve noticed in having lack of experience romantically. Maybe you’ll relate to some of them….

👍Pros:

- I had the time to get to know myself more in a way.

- I had so much time for writing and reading and just doing my own thing.

- I was able to observe couples from the outside to gain a different perspective on relationships.

- I was able to focus on making memories with friends instead of some guy who probably wouldn’t be around for long.

- I had a job and I wasn’t rushing to get off to go see a guy.

- I was able to start thinking about what I wanted in my ideal partner from what I saw from others.

- I built a deep rooted sense of confidence and comfort in knowing that just because it isn’t NOW, doesn’t mean I won’t find my person SOMEDAY.

🤔Cons:

- Dating was absolutely brand new territory when I finally started whilst everyone else had some experience.

- I found that things I THOUGHT I desired in a partner, didn’t match up to what I NEEDED from a partner.

- I don’t know how to put myself out there now.

- Relationships either move too fast or end too fast simply because of lack of experience.

- It took a while longer to build up the sense of confidence in existing that I have today. Which is still on its way. ——> Even though it was partially my choice to not date, I was never really asked out and able to say yes or no.

At the end of the day though, there’s no shame in having dated 0 or 20 people in high school. These is just my personal take on the matter.
