Review | In Five Years | 3/5

📚 Synopsis: Dannie Kohan, a type-A lawyer, has a meticulous five-year plan to reach her goals. One night after going to sleep, she wakes up 5 years into the future in a different apartment with a man who is not her fiancée. After that experience, Dannie wakes back up again in 2020 and puts the odd “dream” to the back of her mind. Fast forward 4.5 years later and she comes face to face with the man from her vision. This book is a story of friendship, love, and destiny.

📖 Review: Okay, so the plot of this book didn’t work for me. There was a lot of potential with the mystery and intrigue at the beginning to see what direction the story was headed, but I didn’t like the way it turned out. I thought the main character was a bit unlikable as well. I enjoyed that the book was short though because it’s nice to just have a quick read sometimes! I also liked the New York City setting and discussing life there.

‼️Spoiler Below‼️

So I tried to keep my review above spoiler-free, but I’ll get into it more here. I know it was out of grief, but Dannie getting involved with her best friend’s fiancée in any way did not sit right with me. I was super excited to see where the story was headed in the beginning and was disappointed with that being how it turned out. Also, I know Dannie was in denial about her feelings (or lack thereof) in her own long term relationship, but stringing her fiancée along for so long seemed a bit cruel and the she basically just forgot about him. Overall, the plot of the book just didn’t work for me.
