a classic you need to read 📚🍂

I hadn't originally planned to read Stoner this year but on a trip to the library I stopped and read the back cover. Soon I was reading the introduction and then before I knew it I had been sitting there for 30 minutes and was already 20 pages in. On the surface Stoner doesn't seem like a book that reaches out and pulls you in. It's about a rather unremarkable college professor who never achieves great professional or personal success. Yet I was immediately swept up in this tale of quiet devotion. John Williams' concise yet romantic writing style perfectly captures the understated passion of the titular character, keeping you invested from start to finish.
