My Honest Thoughts on The House Across the Lake

Book Synopsis: Casey Fletcher was a big time actor until her husband passed away, she went on a crazy drinking spree and found herself fired from her acting gigs. She retreats to her family’s lake house in Vermont to take some time to recuperate, but Casey quickly realizes she is bored at the lake and finds herself obsessively keeping track of her neighbors across the lake, Katherine and Tom.

This kicks off a wild ride of Casey trying to figure out what's really happening across the lake.

While the premise was interesting, the novel moves really slowly until about the halfway point, at which the pacing totally changes. I don’t want to spoil anything, but this novel delves into some pretty hard to believe themes, and also uses the unreliable narrator trope, which I think is overdone in thriller novels.

The ending was a big disappointment for me, and I walked away very confused. I gave it three stars because I’m a long time fan of Riley Sager, but felt like this was not his best.
