A pouch isn’t necessary on some units but it does come in handy (my opinion). The convenience of having the essentials on me vs needing to go back and forth to my cart or med room in case I forget something, CLUTCH!

Here’s the break down:

-Lululemon Everyday Carry 2L

-Clip Glow, you can find on Amazon (it’s rechargeable, and has 4 light settings). Helps when going into pts rooms at night without having to turn the room light on to get labs or medicate. ITS SUPER BRIGHT!

-Flushes, IFYKYK. Probably the most basic need on any unit using drips/IV meds.

-The stethoscope is my back up. I have both a Littman IV and MDF. The Littman I only use for clinical and of course will be the main one I use when I start as a nurse.

-Hand lotion is a must! Using hand sanitizer going in and out of rooms multiple times throughout the night WILL dry your hands out.

-Lip balm, your lips will get dry.

-Alcohol prep pads, definitely needed to clean skin, IV care (if prevantics isn’t available).

-Trauma shears

-Medical Tape

-Pens/Pen light/marker: writing/assessment/room board

-Foldable clipboard (this doesn’t fit in the pouch but it’s always on my person). I know there’s been controversy about these. I personally think it’s handy and compact enough to put in my scrub pocket without adding bulk. Some nurses on unit don’t use the foldable but do have some short of clipboard when taking report.
