Hi 🍋s!

Wanted to share my experience as an owner of a dog for the first time! I’m not an expert but always happy to learn from experienced dog owners ☺️

1. Wakes you up in the morning - weekends included

🌤️ Charcoal wakes me up at around 10 am every weekend where I will usually prepare his first meal and let him go peepee. The good thing is that once he is done eating and pooing, he does go back to sleep with me. My sleep-in weekend always comes with a 30mins awake time in the middle.

2. Getting bored of their kibbles

🍽️ Charcoal used to have kibbles with milk every meal and he eventually got bored of it where he show signs of disinterest in his food. We eventually switched it up to a meal subscription plan with BomBom where I alternate his meal between cooked white and red meat. #bombom

💰 Price: $150 - $200 (depending on the type of meat you choose)

3. Moves around when they sleep at night

💤 I’m quite a light sleeper and I can hear Charcoal changing his sleeping spot a few times every night, especially when he shakes in between moves (with a bell on his collar). I’m guessing because it gets warm when he sleeps in a particular spot for some time.

4. Commitments

There are a lot of commitments and sacrifices you have to make, especially when nobody is at home with charcoal. Listing down some of the daily/weekly commitments which sometimes I’m guilty of not doing 🥲

🐕 daily walks

🪥 nightly teeth brushing

🎀 daily brushing of fur

🧸 daily play time

🚿 weekly showers

💅 weekly nails trimming

👂🏻 weekly ear cleaning

🐾 regular paw care

5. High maintenance

The expenses of having a dog range around $200-300 per month. Daily meals for charcoal cost about $175 per month (cheaper if your dog is on kibbles?). Some other expenses include monthly parasite protection chews, treats, toys, and dog hygiene care (toothpaste, wet wipes, paw balm, mouth spray, etc). Thankfully charcoal does get free full grooming now and then which we get to save quite a bit (~$80) ✌🏻

6. Sometimes they bark into blank space?

There was a few times when charcoal barks at the room door wanting to go out but there is no one downstairs on the outside the room or downstairs (living in a Maisonette). And with that said, there was once he barked outside the room window?! And our room is on the second floor, so nobody can be standing outside the window?! Being a timid person, I do freaked out but I have to tell him to come back into the room and hope that he doesn’t bark again at the door 🥲🥲

Hope my sharing provides some insides into how’s having a dog like! And no matter what he will always be my precious xiaobaobei 😝
