**Warning, Prawnographic Post**

Shrimply tired of not catching any prawns/yabbies? Here’s how to snag your first catch! In this guide, I will be going through bait tips on how to increase your catch rate because I am not shellfish. If the post is well received, I will continue to publish a more comprehensive guide that includes preferred locale/behaviour of the prawns, hooking and handling techniques, as well as how I like to prepare them.

Also do note that catching yabbies are way more difficult than catching prawns and require a lot more experience.

Before starting your session, it is paramount that you ensure that you measure your line so that it touches the bottom of the pond. There are usually guides or measurements located around the pond for you to check.

🦐 The Bait 🦐

Most prawning places provide free chicken heart/liver as bait. You may also purchase earthworms that are slightly more effective. The secret ingredient however, is the magical RED prawn powder. Simply coat your bait with the powder for maximum effectiveness. Prawns are just addicted to it. Ensure that the tip of the hook is exposed when hooking the bait and that the bait is not too big. My friend and I found that yabbies on the other hand, prefer THIC chicken heart as bait and the powder does not seem to have much of an increase in effectiveness.

That’s basically all you need for having proper bait. Coupled with a proper hooking technique, you will find yourself being complimented by all the YPs and XMMs at the prawning pond! “STEADY LAH YOU.”

Stay tuned for more tips! But my best tip for you is to just buy the prawns from sheng siong if you want the best bang for your buck. It’s only $2.49 for 100g (as seen in the last picture) compared to the $40 that you will pay for 3 hours of prawning 🤣

p.s. the prawn powder stains your fingers red so don’t lick them after and use gloves if you are a whimp like me 😫
