My Favorite Maxi Skirts & How I Style Them🍸🌃

Before this year, the term “maxi skirt” was not frequently used in my vocabulary. I considered the form of skirt to be reserved for more formal occasions or for a beach day during the summer, and didn’t see very many people wear them both on the streets of NYC or on my social feeds. A few months later and well into 2023, my opinion has without a doubt been changed.

Maxi skirts are now one of my favorite garments to style because I find they instantly transform an outfit making it look effortlessly chic. I also now understand the maxi length to add to the versatility of the garment rather than restrict it. And, I think many of you would also agree with maxi skirts becoming a key part of your wardrobe!

1. Silk Maxi Skirt with a Slit: silk and satin garments will forever be the epitome of elegance to me and silk maxi skirts are no exceptions. This instantly elevates any outfit making it perfect for an evening out, while requiring minimum effort. I love when there is also a slit in the skirt because it helps add shape to the design and flatters the figure better since silk skirts don’t tend to be as form fitting. I like to style silk skirts with a simple top to keep all the attention on the skirt, and more casual accessories like a baseball cap so that the outfit remains versatile and more appropriate for a daytime look, too.

2. Skirts Part of Matching Sets: if you don’t have as much time to spend on styling outfits, matching sets are for you! They require minimum effort to style and instantly look put together and chic because the garments are designed as a set. I love matching sets featuring maxi skirts because the skirt helps give the outfit a more dressy aire. This set from Princess Polly is one of my favorites because it’s so stretchy and comfortable making it perfect to wear from day to night. All you need to do is to switch sneakers for heels and you’re good to go!

This type of skirt has been one of the top trends of the past year and with reason! They are the key to creating the cool girl look as the denim keeps the outfit casual and relaxed, while the maxi skirt nature makes it look more chic. Again, I love when there is a slit in the skirt as it better helps to flatter the figure! As a neutral girly, I also appreciate that denim maxi skirts can be found in black and white, as well.

4. Simple Cotton Maxi Skirts: sometimes, simplicity is key and all that is needed to create an effortlessly chic look. When styling a simple cotton maxi skirt, like this one from Princess Polly, I like to pair it with more unique pieces, such as this lace and mesh top from Tiger Mist, which helps add dimension to the otherwise simple look. One of my favorite looks when going out to dinner!

5. Colorful Maxi/Midi Skirts for Summer: with summer nearly here, it would be a crime not to include a colorful maxi skirt in this list! Adding a pop of color, such as this baby pink shade in the midi skirt I’m wearing above, enhances the feminine nature of the garment and makes it a more dainty garment such as a cute mini skirt might be.
