It's Expensive to be an Actor

Have you ever heard of "It's expensive to be poor"? This reminded me of "It's expensive to be an actor." The reason I drew this parallel is cuz most actors don't make much money acting, yet there's so many expenses you undertake to become and stay one.

🎭Headshots $200-$500+

🎭 Casting Websites $60-$300/year

OR Agency Commission 10-20% per job

🎭Manager Commission (if you have one) 10-15%

🎭Union Membership (if you belong to one) $170-$230 per year

🎭 Acting Classes $100-$500+ per class

🎭 Equipment $0-$400 this is up to you

🎭 Miscellaneous (gas, tolls, train/bus tickets, hotel, wardrobe, etc)

Acting is a beautiful craft and by no means I discourage anyone of trying it. But, be prepared. I am fortunate that I have a 9-5 that allows me to fund my acting expenses, and almost every actor I know has a day job. It's normal and probably expected in this economy, so pick one you enjoy :)
