I'll be the first to admit, I HATED this book when I first read it

The book is meant to serve as a guide to help readers understand and deal with the people around them

Author Thomas Erikson claims that there are 4 different behavior types of people, categorizing each type by color and set of characteristics

The 4 different groups are as follows:

RED - dominant, ambitious, commanding

YELLOW - Talkative, enthusiastic, creative

GREEN: patient, relaxed, reliable

BLUE: systematic, analytical, methodical

By understanding each color profile, we can learn how to become more effective communicators and as a result, enhance the relationships in our life

Seems legit, right? WRONG.

One of my biggest dislikes about the book is the vagueness and baselessness of its argument.

Firstly, the book has absolutely no research to back its claims. I'm not saying that it has to be drenched in scientific research and numbers but I think Eirksok should've included a few social experiments proving the accuracy of the DISA system.

The last chapter includes a set of real-life "interviews" discussing the DISA system and different behavioral types but that's about it (and even then, it seemed a little too curated and fake)

Secondly, I strongly disagree with the notion that human beings can be diluted into one of 4 categories. Humans are incredibly vast, complex creatures, that are constantly changing and easily influenced by their environment. Depending on the environment, circumstance, and people that I'm dealing with, I can easily fit into any one of the 4 categories.

As you can imagine, I've rated this book very poorly mainly for the two reasons above.

But as always, I'm curious to hear everyone else's thoughts and opinions.

What do you think? Have you read Surrounded By Idiots? What's your final thought of the book? Comment below, let's talk about it!
