how to take stunning food photography

if you love documenting your cafe adventures and snapping nice pics of what you eat, here are some tips 👇🏻

1. ensure there’s good lighting 🥝

as a general rule of thumb, i love working with natural light cos it allows me to edit my photos however i want to afterwards. contrary to popular belief, VSCO filters don’t always save a pic!

2. position your food 🍋

whether it’s a flatlay, or a front shot, or even a side shot, make sure the attention is focused on the main item.

3. that said, don’t be afraid to try out different layouts! 🍇

photography is like making art — you get to move your subjects around like a collage. place a cup of coffee just slightly out of frame; play with empty space; fill the table with complementary objects. the possibilities are endless.

4. focus on the details 🍒

maybe it’s the texture of the cream in your swiss roll, or the way the chocolate sauce coats your glass of iced mocha. there are many ways to capture these little details to make your food images stand out, plus, they’re great visual add-ons to your captions as well!
