June Reads w/ ratings 📚⭐️

June was a slow month for me book wise, but I’m excited to continue exploring more book and reaching my reading goals. I purchase all my book from Half Price Books. 📚

1. Children of Blood & Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐: I absolutely loved this book and wish I could read it again for the first time! I’m starting to love the afrofuturism movement and how Toni incorporates real life issues like racial profiling into the book. I’m excited to read the next book in the series and the 3rd book that just released.

2. By the Book by Jasmine Guillory

⭐️⭐️⭐️: I had fun reading the book and it was a nice break from heavy reads but it was a little too predictable for me. If I had to compare it to a movie it would without a doubt be beauty and the beast. I love that the book is centered around black love and not black trauma but I wish Isabelle stood up for herself earlier in the book.

3. Bridgerton - The Duke & I by Julia Quinn

???: This is my current read and so far I’m not loving it. I know a lot of books are adapted to be in shows but the differences are undeniable with this. It could be me but within the first few chapters it seems Simon is not a POC, but the cover displays something different. There is a lot more to the characters in the book so I’m excited to see if the book picks up or if it’ll be a DNF.
