WHAT I LEARNED IN MY FIRST YEAR OF MARRIAGE

We have two anniversaries, technically. We had a small church ceremony on February 12, 2023 before having our big wedding April 20,2024. That meant two things: 1) we had already been married for a year and two months before our “wedding” and 2) when I vowed to love him again, I was aware of many of the challenges that come with that love.

With that said, here are some lessons I learned in my first year of marriage:

1. 1 Corinthians 13 is a guideline of God-based love. And it’s hard. And I rarely get past patient.

2. Your spouse will never be perfect. But look to God to work on you and where you’re imperfect and trust Him to do the same with them.

3. You won’t like them everyday. But it’s important that you choose to love them everyday.

4. And choosing to love them often means choosing them and their needs over your feelings. Weird but it works, I promise.

5. Take note of the times when you are really happy with them. This will be a good thing to remind yourself of in the bad times.

Marriage is one of those things no one really prepares you for, but is pretty great nonetheless. Hope these tips inspire you and serve as encouragement
