3 horror books by latin american authors

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month I wanted to highlight three horror books by latin american authors! Because it’s in my humble opinion that no one does horror like the girlies in the south american continent

01 Mouthful of Birds by Samanta Schweblin

– This collection of short stories is one filled with one unsettling story after the other! With themes ranging from a girl who gains a sudden appetite for small birds to a painter with a violent past who made a living from his gruesome full scale paintings to a man who after murdering his wife is thought a genius. Be prepared to feel chills down your spine as you go through this disturbing collection that brilliantly blends reality with fiction.

02 Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

– After a virus contaminates animals around the world, making them deadly to consume, the human race begins processing humans instead. Treating humans like cattle and breeding them to eat has become the new normal in this dystopian novel. But what happens when the director of a human processing plant begins to have second thoughts on his position in society? What happens once a pretty female due for the processing plant catches his eye? Be warned, you will need a stomach of steel to get through this one!

03 Little Eyes by Samanta Schweblin

– Told like a black mirror episode this collection has themes of surveillance and human connection. “Kentukis”, think furbys with cameras have taken over the world, following a disjointed narrative we follow the lives of dwellers, people that control kentuki’s or keepers, people who own kentuki’s as pets. There is a dark unease webbed into the pages as the connections between keepers and dwellers as privacy becomes a blurred line.
