Boy mom icks

These are just a few things that have been said to me as a boy mom, and they give me the absolute ick!

1. “You’re lucky, boys are so much easier than girls”

This was said to me multiple times when I was pregnant and told people I was having a boy. Every person that said this to me was a man who had a daughter. Like first, kids are kids, they’re difficult no matter what gender. Second, it’s offensive because I am a girl and what they mean is “girls come with drama and they’re emotional, therefore they’re more difficult”. That’s just a stereotype placed on females, and I do not like to reinforce negative gender stereotypes!

2. “He’s gonna be a looker/heartbreaker.”

This one is just weird because my son is 5 months old. He’s a baby. I’m not really worried what he’s going to look like when he gets older and neither should you. Just say my baby is cute and move on, no need to make it weird.

3. “He’s such a flirt.”

Again, my baby is 5 months old!! He can’t even talk. Just because he smiles at you doesn’t mean he’s “flirting”. He likes to look at people and he’s a happy baby. Also, you’re a grown woman so now you’re just being creepy. It’s just so weird that people essentially sexualize kids in this way.

Is this dramatic or am I justified in feeling grossed out by these things?
