i regret falling for this tourist trap 🤡🙅‍♀️

Ever went online in search of places of interest in Penang and you come across recommendations to visit Penang Hill? Well, I’ll be sharing why I regretted falling for this tourist trap and why you should NEVER visit Penang Hill.

Penang Hill

🕛 Opening Hours:

- Ticketing Counters: 6.15am - 8pm

- Funicular Service: 6.30am - 10pm

❌ LONG WAITING TIMES

FYI, we went on a weekday late afternoon and bought tickets for the normal lane but wow, did not expect to wait up to TWO HOURS just to board the Funicular (train) UP the hill. Supposedly, you are only required to wait every 15 minutes before the train arrives (btw, there’s only ONE train operating at the time of visit).

HOWEVER, we waited almost an hour due to the snaking long crowd and that’s not the worst part.

The train BROKE DOWN because of the staff attempting to overload the train for more visitors to squeeze into the train to minimize waiting times. This then took another hour for the staff to service the train before it started working again… Even if you reach the top of the hill, it took WAY TOO LONG to board the train down the hill so we opted to take a jeep instead.

❌ LIMITED ATTRACTIONS

While we did enjoy visiting the Teddy Bear Museum, that was probably the only attraction we went to since everything (including eateries) was closed by the time we arrived at the peak (5pm onwards). Honestly, the main attraction of this hill was to probably get a bird’s eye view of Georgetown and the whole of Penang, but is it really worth your time and money?

Moral of the story: You’re better off spending your precious time somewhere else, unless you’re willing to trade time for spectacular views.
