GUIDE TO MOVING INTO HALL 🏡🛌

Since it’s the start of the new semester and it’s move-in season!! ~~ Here’s a little guide to some hall essentials!!!

For context, I have been and am currently staying in a double room in a numbered hall!

**⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ Tech Items ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆**

**・❥・wifi router**

NTU provides wifi in school buildings (north spine, south spine, etc.) but not in halls! You would have to bring your own LAN cable + router for wifi connections! they can be bought from challengers or 2nd hand from carousell or seniors! i’m using the one from TP-Link!

**・❥・extention plugs**

there are limited sockets in the rooms and as uni keeds, they’re definitely not enough! i recommend extensions that have 4-5 more extra plugs + usb! (trust me they’re lifesavers!!)

if you have a fridge, you might need another extension (maybe a small one with 2 sockets), but that depends on your fridge!

**・❥・bar fridge**

NTU imposes a 60x60x60 size restriction on the fridge so you might want to keep them in mind! Many people actually sell their fridges so if you’re ok with 2nd hand fridges, you can ask around or look at listings on NTU Marketplace tele group chat! They’re great when you need to put fresh food or milk or have chilled drinks/ice :>

**⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ Cleaning Items ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆**

**・❥・ mop stick**

they’re easy to use & can be used with dry or wet floor wipes!! this makes cleaning your room a lot easier!

**・❥・ disinfectant spray**

includes insect spray & room freshener!! it’s always good to have insect spray (jic u have un wanted visitors uk!!) + when you first move in, the room may smell musty so air freshener + airing can help to reduce the smell

**・❥・ wet/dry wipes**

well, you would need it for almost anything so just have both jic you need them!

**⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ Laundry Items ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆**

**・❥・ laundry bags**

there are many different sizes for different purposes! just get them based on your needs! they prevent my clothes from getting hooked/frayed while washing. i got most of mine from shopee :>

**・❥・ hanging organiser**

honestly one of the best thing i brought to hall HAHAH i had this at home so i didn’t have to buy them, but i use it for smaller items like my undergarments, belts, caps, shorts etc.

**・❥・ clothes hanger**

there’s limited wardrobe space so avoid those bulky ones! the thin black ones from ikea are cheap and serves its purpose well, else, just bring anything you have from home!

**・❥・ laundry pods**

definitely a need!! there are many brands in the market now. eg. KA pods, TOP, etc. just choose one scent that you like! they’re REALLY convenient cus you just have to put 1 pod in together with ur dirty clothes (or 2 pods for heavy loads) & wash! they’re definitely more convenient than getting a whole bottle and pouring them.

**⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ Shower Items ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆**

**・❥・ rubber slippers**

use waterproof slippers for showers etc! personally, i wouldn’t shower barefooted hehe

**・❥・ shower basket**

a basket to put ALL your toiletries & just carry it with you to the toilet (so you won’t forget anything) + a tote bag to carry ur towel, clothes etc.

**・❥・ toiletries**

well, just a reminder hahah bring ur toiletries & basic necessities! else can just buy from prime hehe

**⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ Sleeping Items ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆**

**・❥・ single bedsheet**

in NTU the mattress provided are covered with a pvc cover to protect it/keep it clean. so you’ll need single bedsheets.

**・❥・ pillow/bolster etc.**

NTU only provides mattress you’ll have to bring everything else you need

**・❥・ mattress topper**

I think the mattresses might be abit solid for some, so if you like soft mattresses, then maybe consider mattress toppers! IKEA sells mattress toppers of different thickness

**⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚Miscellaneous Items ˚୨୧⋆｡˚ ⋆**

**・❥・ floor mat**

I don’t like my wet feet to dirty my room so a mat i decided to put a mat right outside my door but this is up to u!

**・❥・ bowls & cutleries**

there’s a pantry in each hall and i believe every hall provides an electric stove and microwave so you can still cook. but if not having a simple set of crockery is good + lunchbox so you don’t have to pay extra for takeaway boxes!

**・❥・ mini vacuum**

magic clean mop actually suffice but i’m considering mini vacuum for speedy cleaning of dust & hair… so this is up to you too!

**・❥・ pins**

most halls have pegboard near the study table so pins are good to pin your photos, notes, timetable etc!

**・❥・ door seal**

to prevent unwanted visitors (insects), the door seal prevents them from coming in through the door gaps & they actually also kinda blocks off some dust too… but some rooms already have the door seal in place as they’re placed by seniors, soo u may want to check first, before buying them
