I just wanted to share my induction story with you guys. This was my first pregnancy and baby was over due 40+5 I had unknowingly been 2cm dilated for weeks with no progress. Baby did not pass one of her stress tests so we scheduled an induction on 8/6 at 12:00 pm. I get there and they put me on a monitor before starting me on pitocin. The monitor was showing I was having contractions but I could not feel them. They start pitocin at 1pm through an iv. They started the pitocin dose slowly at a 2 and every hour turned it up x2. The pitocin goes up to 20. I lasted with the pitocin for 10 hours at dose 12 with no pain meds till I asked for the epidural at 6cm dilated the next day because I was making no progress anymore. After the epidural they put a catheter in which I could not feel to drain my pee. They then broke my water and things quickly sped up. I went from 6-10 cm in about 1-2 hours. By this time they upped the pitocin to 18 so I can kinda feel contractions with the epidural which was helpful but not painful. I was then ready to push. When I was pushing my midwife massaged my perineum with oil with each ouch which I highly suggest if you want to avoid tearing. Pushing went well with the epidural. I could definitely feel lots of pressure. I was still able to feel contractions to help me push but it was not as intense. I also did feel the ring of fire but it was also not as intense also. I pushed for about an hour total. my daughter was born on 8/7 at 11:21 pm at a WHOPPING 9LBS 5OZ and 21inches long!!! And not a single tear!!! The hospital staff were godsent. I took red raspberry leaf tea through my pregnancy and also the gentle birth tincture I bought on Amazon. The worst part about this experience probably was the uncomfortable iv and feeling the pressure when pushing also the lack of sleep and having to be on a liquid only diet for 2 days. My baby coped with the induction very well and came out very alert passing all tests! My plan was to go unmedicated because the induction process was a lot harder than natural birth. My induction took about 35 hours total from starting the Pitocin to baby being born. If your getting induced and are scared try to hold out as long as possible with the pitocin and try to pass atleast 5 cm so you can avoid a c-section and more unnecessary intervention. My recovery also went great. I am now 1 month postpartum and back to my pre baby weight and also back in the gym + exclusively breastfeeding! YALL CAN DO THIS!!
