IDENTIFY & PREVENT SCAMS + why carousell notforme🥹

I’ll be honest, I’ve earn quite a bit from carousell from selling items like clothes and accessories. However, recently I dislike going on carousell and even removed the app #NotForMe because:

1. Phishing Scam 🎣🐟 / scam

What is Phishing Scam?

Sounds like “fishing” , scammers “fish” for you personal & sensitive information from the (app) user and scam your money.

For carousell, scammers would pose as prospective buyers (ie. they are interested) & ask for your ✨personal information✨ (eg. Email) & most likely send you an unauthorised link/email 🚩(exiting carousell) - you can find other different scenarios online about how scammer phish

While these 🚩red flags seems so easily identified & seem like it’s “common sense” some people do fall for it - & there has been an increased number

What Carousell has done is to add a ✨Banner✨ (at the top of your account) and raise awareness😌 about these scams on their platform. but because Carousell is just a platform for transactions (selling & buying) to occur, there isn’t a guarantee of your money returned, if you happen to get scammed… + carousell would just ✨BLOCK/ SUSPEND✨ account

2. “Interested Buyers”😭😭

these people really get onto my nerves…🥺💆🏻‍♀️especially only at the last minute do they then sound out “sorry I can’t make it today” , “sorry I cant find the item”, leave you on read or just totally NO RESPONSE🥺🫠🥺🫠don’t waste my time😭😭

3.Others😭😭

these includes the app glitching, idk if it’s just my phone but sometimes it just hangs with no responses🫠or chats that I’ve replied wouldn’t be reflected on the screen

another thing that lowkey icks me (not a big issue tho) is, being interested in trading only…especially if its already clearly stated “ WTS” (want to sell) or “selling only”.🥲🥲

‼️look out for SCAMS + tips

1. asking for irrelevant information

Like email, bank number ect. There is NO NEED for these information - this should be a MAJOR RED FLAG SMT IS WRONG OKAY🚩

2. Exiting OUT of Carousell

eg. send you a LINK/ EMAIL/ MESSAGE (esp if it’s overseas number)- carousell will NEVER do this (even if the link ends with “carousell” or “carousell” on WhatsApp) NEVER‼️

3. Broken English

This is a sign, not always the case but you can use it a gauge. Especially when words that are obviously misspelled or you just don’t understand what they are trying to say AT ALL. If it’s so, you might wanna consider which country are they from…since they can’t form understandable English sentences

4. PLS READ UP

Carousell has a banner put in place to alert and inform people about the different scams and how scammer go about it.

It’s good to know so you would be equipped with the knowledge and know how to identify and prevent yourself from getting scammed!💁🏻‍♀️

while everybody has different experience with carousell, or even positive ones, but do always keep a look out for scammers and know how to identity them to buy/sell safely🫶🏻
