i had a mini vacation to bangkok last month and here’s my itinerary / places i strongly recommend!

DAY ONE

when we got there we decided to explore MBK center, as it was just a 5 minutes walk from our hotel. we had lunch at Ban Khun Mae, a restaurant that serves local dishes. prices were pretty decent, from $8-$10 a dish.

after lunch we checked into our hotel, which was 39 minute drive from the airport. it’s conveniently located within walking distance of Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery Center and MBK center. the nearest BTS station was a 2 minutes walk away. paid about $72 per night, and it was a pretty good deal in my opinion.

first day dinner was definitely the highlight of the trip. we went on this river cruise buffet dinner. the cruise brought us around Chao Phraya River for 2 hours, where we were blessed with good food and fascinating views. i queued for an hour with almost what felt like 100 other people under the humid night sky. almost passed out but it was so worth.

DAY TWO:

we spent our entire morning walking around the malls near our hotel only to realise that no shops open until 10am or 11am. we had breakfast at TrueCoffee, literally a coffee place that sells all-day American breakfast. prices were like $10+ for a dish, while the ice coffee were about $5, similar to those cafes in sg.

explored the area near our hotel for abit and spent the remaining time of day at Chinatown. other than the night market and the sense of familiarity, there wasn’t much to see. my parents absolutely loved it there as there were many shops selling those traditional snacks, local products especially those ointments. heard they’re really good but i dont know how to appreciate them. oh and it was raining super heavily. was trapped in a mall for a 45 minutes because of the mini flood. horrible experience wont wish it upon my enemies fr.

DAY THREE:

shopping. way too much shopping. had breakfast at Pratunam Market and wanted to get my cute dresses from the flea market but they were CLOSING. it was only 9am😔 so pls pls pls pls go early if you want to get your hands on the good stuff.

i somehow got lost in Pratunam and ended up opposite Platinum Mall. did a shit ton of shopping there too. couldn’t feel my legs by the end of the morning.

in the afternoon we went to Sea Life aquarium and Madame Tussauds. the aquarium was a solid 10/10, comparable to the one in sg. or maybe i’m just a geek when it comes to marine animals lol. Madame Tussauds was more fun than i expected lol i was taking 0.5x photos of every wax figurine they had….it was lowkey creepy. oh and we got our tickets from Klook! it was in a package, which was WAY CHEAPER than what was sold through the counters.

at night we made our way to Jodds Fair Ramas 9 (the old one) for dinner. settled down at this food store located towards the back, and has this seafood platter that looked BOMB but was mid. i ate till my heart’s content at the night market. oh and the stall of the famous watermelon juice lady you see on tiktok is there too. the things sold there were on the pricier side, considering how tourists flood the area. would say it’s okay to give it a skip.

DAY FOUR:

the old folks rly loved Chinatown so we went back there for breakfast. stopped by this shady alley that had seats for a stall that sold noodles (somewhat similar to bak chor mee), and WAH IT WAS DAMN GOOD AND CHEAP.

a trip to bangkok is not complete without going to the supermarket. we went to big C which was just opposite centralwOrld. oh but first we had lunch at this rly famous boat noodle place called Thong Smith. the place was swarming with singaporeans😭. but ok yes this was rly worth the queue and travel. pls pls pls go if you have the chance to.

after supermarket shopping spree and taking a beauty nap back at the hotel, i woke up late for dinner so we went to this k-hotpot place called Cheese Owl, located at Siam One or something. the whole building was flooded with people and a shit ton of hotpot restaurants🤣 ok but dinner was damn good. the soup base was mid but the dishes and everything were okay. worth for the price you pay if you eat seafood and beef.

DAY 5:

time to go home !!!!! my flight was at 5.45pm? but i had to be at the airport by 2, so i spent my morning sleeping in. went to this restaurant at MBK center again and i had salmon pesto pasta. i had my second lunch at the airport and you bet i almost felt like exploding. but im so glad i did because my flight got delayed for almost 1.5 hours sigh

TIPS

⚡️use Bolt instead of grab and/or tuktuk. grab waiting time can be up to 20 minutes and it doesn’t help that their traffic lights take damn long to turn green. waste of time. tuktuk getting more expensive, most of the times even more expensive than grab.

💳dont need buy data passport/e-sim. local sim cards sold at the airport are cheaper
