The reason I like to use dates with the pits in them is because they’re usually thicker and juicer but it’s completely preference based.
I soak them in water to make them softer and easier to blend. I don’t have a measurement for the water, it’s just another preference based variable.
The spices are also optional as well as the vanilla. I just use a splash of vanilla and spices to taste.
I usually just use cinnamon, but this time I used cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin spice. This is perfect for fall.
Date caramel is better than store bought for so many reasons:
- there are only two required ingredients
- dates are rich in fiber
- it’s less expensive and healthier overall
I have used my own date caramel on ice cream, in coffee, and as a dip for fruit, and it hasn’t let me down. It’s delicious and the container in the first picture has lasted me months using it in moderation. That’s how much I get from using just 15.
