Male gaze disgusts me 🚨

When I first met my fiancé who was then my boyfriend, his instagram following and follower ratio was so soothing to the eye. Until one random day he screenshotted his instagram account to show me that he had blocked all of the very few females that he had on his Instagram. But fast forward to today, I am his one and only follower and he’s following only me. 😝

Even though he had less than 200 followers, it was still so sweet that he did all that for me without me having to ask. He’s never been active on social media but even so, he wanted me to have the reassurance. I knew then that he was truly the one.

I on the other hand had over 4,000 followers on instagram and 12,000 followers on twitter. And yes, it took me about a few hours to block all of the guys but it was worth it. I know i could have easily made a new account but i’ve had the instagram and twitter account practically my entire life so there’s way too many memories on it for me. But fast forward to today, I chose to keep my number of followers really small, it’s truly only meant for the people whom i feel safe with, and I know that they wouldn’t judge me.

Here’s why I didn’t regret doing that:

- I am free from the male gaze. Have you seen what those guys are saying about girls on tumblr, telegram group chats, TikTok & etc? It’s so freaking disgusting. I don’t want to know what else do they do to those photos, it makes me so nauseous and paranoid. Once it’s on the internet, it will be there forever.

- I can post ANYTHING i want. Bikini pictures? Sure. Gym outfits? Why not. Me in revealing clothes? Of course. I could post all that and not have to worry about my pictures ending up being saved and posted elsewhere for the disgusting males to sexualise over.

- I make my partner feel at ease. Just like how I feel that way, I know he does too. Cheating nowadays almost always start from social media. Even though we both have access to each other’s phone, it’s still a nice feeling knowing and having the reassurance. It depends on what boundaries you set amongst yourselves when it comes to your own relationship, but this one works best for us, and we couldn’t be happier.

10/10 would recommend the quiet life. Life has been so peaceful ever since 🫶🏻
