When I was in university I gained probably 25lbs in my first two years… it’s crazy. It’s HARD. When you live on campus and you have constant buffet style dorm food. It’s hard when the party culture gets to you and you drink away empty calories. It’s hard when everyone around you is eating and binging at 3 am. It’s hard when you barely have time to study nevertheless workout. BUT ITS DOABLE! By my senior year of college I lost 40lbs. I HAD TO DIGGG through my google photos to find the healthier form meal options I would make both my freshman and softmore year. Here’s some of my advice, and feel free to ask any questions, I know how hard this is for those of y’all in the same boat:

🤍high protein breakfast: make the switch from having a super sweet carb heavy breakfast to a high protein breakfast. This will keep you more full throughout the day. Get your carb energy from natural sources like fruits! In the dining haul I would always get eggs and mix it with different greens or veggies from the salad bar and occasionally make yogurt bowls.

🤍dorm food SUCKS. You’re better off choosing as many as the whole food options as possible and building yourself a plate. The way that form food is cooked is awful as well, it is heavily salted, cooked in awful seed and vegetable oils, and EXTREMELY processed. So you’re best bet is to get whatever whole proteins they have a build a plate around that. (chicken is usually the answer or eggs)

🤍dorms usually have a huge dessert station that’s buffet style. Skip it. It’s so mediocre anyways. I promise you’re better off grabbing some bread, toasting it, and making your self a loaded toast with yogurt, or peanut butter, and fruits on top. Skip out on the high sugar and high processed desserts. There was a point in time when I was eating two cookies MINIMUM a day from these damn dessert bars and I swear this was one of the main reasons I gained weight.

🤍if they for some reason have a great prepared meal that other students vouch for and you want to try, get it! It’s hard to get a delicious dorm meal. Treat yourself!!

🤍choose water over the fountain drinks. I know there’s an infinite source of soda and sugary drinks in those dining halls. Just get water or coffee or the diet drinks when you’re craving. Drinking your calories is going to bite you back.

🤍 lastly move. Make time to move. Walk EVERYWHERE. I have never had more steps in my life than I did when I was in college. Take advantage of this opportunity to walk your ass off. Especially if this is the food you’re consuming.
