HAPPY 59th BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE 🎂!!

hello hello 🍋 8 friends, happy tuesday! it’s anna, today’s #summerdiary is my third experience at the national day! before i start with my sharing, let me give y’all a little update: today’s the second day of my new semester in university, and not going to lie, i am still trying to adapt after a long 3 months break HAHAHAHA. but it’s okay, i go by the motto, #workhardplayhard! so, for this sem, i will continue to do my best & jiayous to all my fellow students here too💪🏼💪🏼 !!

alright, back to sharing my ndp’24 experience. as mentioned, i have been to the ndp for three times - primary 5, secondary 2/3 and now (uni student)! actually, im not someone who likes attending such events as i don’t fancy large crowds, but my mother got the ticket and i decided to accompany her (bonding session, hehe).

this year, what i feel was the biggest difference is that as i grow older, now i understand the meaning behind each show more, and i learn to better appreciate. this year’s ndp, we experienced the hot sun ☀️, everyone was like applying sunblock, using the fan, using umbrella, etc. in the same hour, we experienced the rain 🌧️😭. poncho and umbrella but still wet… yea, as singaporeans we have to complain…

while everyone is like complaining, i witnessed how the staffs/ volunteers are like busy with preparations and they are sweating too, but they didn’t complain. in one of the picture, i felt so warmed when i saw the big group of staff/ volunteers mopping the floor as it rained and they had to ensure the safety of the performers. however, during the children’s skating performance, a child still fell and some red lion also couldn’t stand as they landed but i believed we are still super proud of them 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼!! the amount of effort they put into this short performance is what we never know/experience! there’s a chinese saying, “台上一分钟，台下十年功” - performing a minute on the stage, takes ten years of effort.

another favourite moment of mine was honestly the mass singing of national day songs. abit cringe right? i never expected that i would said this but i do love that moment. just singing out loud with the strangers around me, but oddly feeling bonded HAHAHAH. but ok, once a year or even rarer since i would only do this if i went for the parade. that day, i felt so touched and witness how tied together singaporeans can be! im thankful for that day 🙏🏼, and thank you for everyone behind this national day parade. i have friends who are the ushers and performers and honestly the amount of time they have spent to prepare for the ndp is insane, and its for free. so, a big thank you to them 🙏🏼!! only pity i had was that I couldn’t really see the fireworks from the blue zone, but hey, i saw it via my friend’s ig story and its really pretty!

honestly, every time i said i don’t want to go but each time i went, i think i enjoyed myself. im thankful to be a singaporean and here i would like to wish singapore a happy belated 59th birthday 🎂 🎉! may singapore continue to progress strong! p.s this year’s ndp stickers are super cute😍😍!!
