Just 1.5 hours from NYC you can explore these historic castle ruins, located on an abandoned island in the Hudson River!
This is the Bannerman Castle, an abandoned military warehouse on a tiny little island up the Hudson River.
From the town of Beacon, NY (an easy car ride or train ride up from New York City), you can catch a trip to the castle which includes a boat ride over to the island, a quick guided tour of the property that gives you loads of cool info about its history, and then some free time to wander around on your own.
The tour is seasonal and closes in the winter so I highly recommend doing this before summer is over or in the fall! The views from the boat and island are also gorgeous.
The cruise & walking tour that I took is only $40 and can be booked on Bannerman Castle’s website. They also offer kayak tours on the weekends and other events.
