I traveled to Tennessee with my Mom and oldest brother who have never been anywhere with mountains so of course we had to go to the Great Smoky Mountains! ⛰️ We flew into Nashville, TN and rented a car to drive to Sevierville, TN where our airbnb was. We rented a beautiful cabin up on a mountain (had to have the full experience of course) the drive to the airbnb everyday was a bit sketch, but thankfully we never had any issues. 😅 Below are things that we did/places we went/places we ate 😋
Things to do:
- Firefox Adventure Park - Sevierville, TN; Zip-lining, Rock Climbing, Suspended Bridges & hikes! We did the suspended bridges and a hike to the waterfall. It was a nice easy hike definitely a fun place for families!
- Gatlinburg - fun town to shop & eat! They have a whole strip of shopping (whole bunch of touristy traps also mixed in). Lots of great restuarants that you can find just by walking down the main street.
- Anakeesta - located on the main street of Gatlinburg is the sky lift up to Anakeesta, which is it’s own little village up on a mountain filled with gift shops, restaurants, and lots of activities for kids.
- Tuckaleechee Cave - Townsend, TN - Really neat cavern with the largest subterranean waterfall in Eastern U.S.
- Island of Pigeon Forge - Fun little shopping area filled with shops, restaurants, and amusement rides. Great place for cheap souvenirs
- Clingsmans Dome - Try to go on a clear visibility day. Best bet is to go in the morning. It is a half mile hike that is all on an incline to the dome (lots of places to sit and rest). Views were 100% worth it.
- Cade’s Cove Loop - This loop is closed to vehicles on certain days so check before you go! We ended up seeing a lot of bears while we drove this loop. I recommend getting there in the morning to beat the traffic. We arrived around 9 AM and it took us 3 hours since people stop whenever they see wildlife (some viewing areas have places to pull off, but not all) it is one-lane/ one-way traffic so you have to be patient! We did do a few short hikes to some old houses, but otherwise it was all in the car! We saw deer, bears, and coyotes.
- Nashville : Walk down broadway - full of live music, bars, and great food! Country Music Hall Of Fame & Museum; Grand Ole Opry; Shop in the Gulch district
- Knoxville: Ijams Nature center; lots of cute boutiques; Sunsphere
Smokey Mountain Hikes:
- Laurel Falls Hike: 2.6 miles roundtrip ~ roughly 2 hours to complete; leads to an 80 ft waterfall; parking is limited so try to arrive early!
- Grotto Falls: this was a neat 3 mile roundtrip hike to a 25 ft waterfall that you could walk behind! Parking is also limited here and its on a one way road so if there’s no parking there’s no way to turn around so start your day early!
- Cataract Falls: Very easy 3/4 mile hike great for kids!
- Any time we saw hiking trail signs with available parking we would try them out! We were never disappointed the whole park is stunning!
Places to Eat:
- Andy’s: My favorite food category is ice cream & Andy’s is my all time favorite place to get ice cream! We don’t have it where I live so anytime were on vacation and there’s and Andy’s we go there EVERY SINGLE DAY
- Mellow Mushroom Pizza: Fun place to try unique pizzas
- Tupelo Honey Kitchen & Bar: Knoxville, TN; You HAVE to get the fried pickles and okra
- Johnny Rockets- Gatlinburg, TN; Great burgers and shakes!
- Loco Burro - Gatlinburg, TN; Great food & big portions!
