I FOUND THE BEST PINEAPPLE TARTS 🍍

this is my first time doing a review of food and i decided to let you all in on a little family secret: we found the best pineapple tarts ever.

how exciting!!

i know it’s a bit late for chinese new year preparations, but if you enjoy eating pineapple tarts all year round, like me, you’re going to want to read this.

so first, let me familiarise you with my preference for a pineapple tart so you can decide whether or not our tastes are similar:

• i don’t like it to be dry

• i’d prefer very much if the pastry wasn’t flaky

• the pineapple filling shouldn’t be too sweet, and neither should it be clumpy

and these pineapple tarts from sunny hills ticked all my boxes.

at first i was a bit apprehensive… i mean, what type of pineapple tart is rectangular…? oddly peculiar shape for a “tart”. then i learnt that it wasn’t meant to be eaten like a biscuit, rather, it was supposed to be sliced into thin pieces, so that’s exactly what i did.

what i love about this pineapple tart is that it’s not conventional. not only is it rectangular in shape, but the pastry is neither flaky or crumbly in a dry sense (like the sunflower ones). it’s soft and melts right into the pineapple filling to create a perfect level of sweet. it’s also not dry. i don’t feel the urge to reach for a jug of water to counter an incoming hiccup that might last the next 15 minutes.

what i also like about sunny hills is that they don’t limit themselves to pineapple tarts/the traditional flavours of a pineapple tart. in one of their special boxes (3rd slide) — the peace and fortune CNY gift box (i think they removed this from the site tbh 😭 might be a festive thing), they infused salted egg custard into the pineapple filling of their tarts (the pineapple fortune cake) and roasted sweet potato into their apple tarts (the apple ping an cake).

they also have apple tarts ($20.50 for 5pcs) — a personal favourite, and seasonal creative tarts! i tried the apple tart with strawberry drizzle on it once and it’s by far my favourite!! i’m waiting for it to come back 😭
