Why I don’t consider myself just a “believer”… ⬇️⬇️

If you’ve seen any of my content or read any of my posts you’ll probably notice that I have never referred to the followers of Christ as just “believers”. I will always refer to myself and those who have been baptized into the church, as Christians or followers of Christ.

The main reason I don’t do this is because I believe there is much more to being a Christian than just believing. Calling ourselves believers, in my opinion, just gives off the vibe that all you have to do is believe and you’re good to go (which is the view of many). But this couldn’t be more untrue.

In James 2:19, the Bible says “You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!”

Even the demons believe that God is real, even the demons believe that Jesus is the son of God, and they shudder at the fact!

If it was that simple then the demons would be going to heaven too! Belief is not the only pre-requisite.

Not to mention the whole chapter 2 of James is talking about how we’re supposed to be active in our faith. Remember “faith without works is dead”.

We’re supposed to be active in our faith, not stagnant. We’re not supposed to just believe and then go about the way we were.

We’re supposed to believe and accept the gift of grace. We’re supposed to accept this gift by being obedient, confessing, repenting, and being baptized for the remission of our sins.

So many people want to stop at belief and say that’s all we have to do, but they fail to realize the rest of the commands we are to do.

So I will never refer to the followers of Jesus as believers. Because to become a Christian and be added to the Lords Church you have to be obedient, and do more than just believe.

“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls… praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”

“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”

“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
