I needed 2 bridal outfits - 1 for morning (games, tea ceremony) and 1 for evening (dinner). The evening gown was going to be glam so I wanted something simple for the day time, and something that felt me.
Iβm Peranakan by heritage - but the link has mainly been food only π never worn a kebaya so what better time than your wedding right?
I looked all over Singapore for a white kebaya but they were super expensive for the quality - it was cheap cotton with polyester thread that shined but in a fake way.. and no one wanted to work with a 6 month timeline even..
The best kebayas are in Malaysia of course.
So I went and got one custom made at Stilista Collection in KL~
π€ The Process
1. I bought the fabric and lace myself because I knew I wanted Thai and Organza silk specifically for the bridal vibes
1a. But they can source the fabric for you as well! Plenty in Malaysia~
2. Visited Stilista Collection (Owner: Abbas) and he literally sketched out the design on the spot!!
3. Adjusted the design a little to my preference (eg shorter front blouse since Iβm short, sleeve length, how far up the embroidery goes etc)
4. After 3-5 months wait for the first draft of the outfit I went back to KL and we tried it on and OMG π we did some adjustments to the sleeve, tighten, loosen all that
5. I was on a super tight timeline, cuz we were leaving KL the next day, so Abbas very kindly worked till midnight to finish the alterations in two days π₯Ή
6. Later on a Peranakan friend of mine shared all white outfits are actually for funerals π oops. But that was after my wedding so I just tell myself it was a modern bride vibes thing π₯Έ
