A day in the life of a haunted house actress 👻

I know I put in my get to know me about working in a haunted house but never really shared any photos from it. So here are a handful of my favorite shots and looks I’ve gotten to wear over the years ❤️

I started at Statesville Haunted Prison in 2012 and worked there up until the gates shut forever in 2021.

It’s an experience like anything else and so hard to describe the feeling of how it felt to physically be in that element. It was euphoria and an escape from reality for me. It was a safe space where I felt I could truly be myself and be around people that were the same as me outcasts.

It was more than just the costume and makeup. I would arrive on the property at 4:30 pm to get ready in costume in makeup and wouldn’t get into the house until around 6:45-7 pm for the night. Some nights we wouldn’t be done until 4:30-5 am so it truly was not for the weak. It was a lot of physical exertion and being aware of your surroundings for your safety, your roommates safety and the customers safety.

Was it a lot of work? Absolutely. Would I ever change my mind about going back? Absolutely not.

I met some of my best friends in that rusty dusty barn that scared the hell out of so many people. I have lifelong connections and memories that will never fade, and to top it all off I met my husband there of all places.

If your into horror and love sfx makeup and acting I would say go for it and test the waters and see if it’s for you, but keep in mind it’s not for everyone so don’t be upset if you can’t keep up with the pace or long hours. But if you can stick with it I promise it is so worth it for the memories you will make and for how much fun you will have ❤️
