honest 💭: HDB laundry system vs steigen

as a new BTO homeowner, one of the key decisions we had to make was whether to keep the laundry system already provided by HDB, or pay extra to have it removed, then purchase an automated laundry rack

our first impression of the HDB laundry system:

ngl, we were lowkey impressed by the laundry system HDB provided us in our flat

💫 unlike old HDB flats, where the dedicated laundry area is out of the flat, ours was located within the service yard itself! 😎

💫 unlike the old-style laundry system, where you've got to chuck in individual bamboo poles into the holes outside your flat, the laundry system provided by HDB came with poles!! i.e. we could essentially do laundry immediately without having to get any bamboo poles!! 🤗

of course, here comes the BUT

BUT,

🙅‍♀️ it required A LOT of effort to lower the laundry system - you've got to feed the rope by the side at a certain angle to lower the rack, and each time you feed the rope, it only lowers by a few cm, so 🫠 it look us a while to figure out how to use it the very first time we attempted to test it out, and the system was also stuck initially due to lack of usage for such a long time :')

🙅‍♀️ without the smart features of an automated laundry system, keeping the HDB's laundry system meant that our laundry would still require the sun to be out for it to properly dry

this means we would still be unable to dry last-minute laundry, and our clothes would still have the damp smell if it rains consecutively for days (like how it does esp. in Nov/Dec/Jan) 😪
