Feeling grateful for friends who bring a little piece of their home country to the office! The best part of having coworkers from all over the world? Learning about new cultures and traditions. Thank you to my friend from Indonesia for sharing this lovely gift with me.

Souvenirs are a way to keep memories of our travels close to us. I'm so happy to have a special reminder of my friend's home to Malaysia right here on my desk. There's nothing like a thoughtful gift from a dear friend to brighten up a workday.

A little explanation about the souvenirs:

1. Bakpia Pathok is a type of sweet pastry that originated in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is a small, round-shaped pastry filled with sweet mung bean paste, although other fillings such as chocolate, cheese, or durian are also available. The pastry has a flaky and slightly crispy exterior, and the filling is soft and sweet. Bakpia Pathok is a popular snack in Indonesia, especially in Yogyakarta, and can be found in many traditional markets or specialty stores. The name "Pathok" comes from a village in Yogyakarta where the pastry is said to have originated. If you have a sweet tooth, Bakpia Pathok is definitely worth a try!

2. Pia Lestari is a type of snack that is a specialty souvenir from Bogor, a city in West Java, Indonesia. It is a small, round-shaped pastry that is filled with sweet mung bean paste and has a flaky crust. The pastry is similar to Bakpia, which is a popular snack from Yogyakarta, but the filling is slightly different in taste and texture.

3. Pia Lestari is often sold as a souvenir or gift for friends and family, and can be found in many souvenir shops in Bogor or at the traditional market in Bogor called Pasar Baru. If you're a fan of sweet pastries, Pia Lestari is definitely worth trying when visiting Bogor.

3. Batagor is a popular Indonesian street food that originated in Bandung, West Java. The name is a shortened form of "baso tahu goreng" which means fried tofu and meatballs. Batagor is typically made by filling fried or steamed dumplings with a mixture of ground fish and tapioca starch, and then deep-frying them until they are golden brown and crispy. The dumplings are usually served with a sweet and spicy peanut sauce and a dash of lime juice. Sometimes, other side dishes such as sliced cucumber, bean sprouts, and fried shallots are also added to the plate. Batagor is a delicious and affordable snack that can be found in many street vendors, food stalls, or traditional markets throughout Indonesia.

4. Pie susu lembang is a type of milk custard pie that is a specialty snack from Lembang, a town in West Java, Indonesia. The pie is made with a filling of milk custard that is baked inside a flaky pastry crust. The filling is creamy, sweet, and has a slightly caramelized flavor. Pie susu lembang is a popular snack and souvenir from Lembang and can be found in many souvenir shops or food stalls in the area. It is also a popular gift for friends and family who are visiting or living in other parts of Indonesia. If you are a fan of sweet, creamy desserts, pie susu lembang is definitely worth trying when you're in Lembang or in the West Java region of Indonesia.
