Hello friends!

I was really surprised to see a number of people who approached me about my previous post about being a convert! Some of you guys wanted to know more about the conversion process, lessons and all that so I’ve decided to share more about my process!

🕌 Darul Arqam: Muslim Converts Association Singapore (www.darul-arqam.org.sg):

- At Darul Arqam, they conduct the conversion ceremony and help you with the administrative part of it! The conversion ceremony is totally free, you don’t have to pay for anything and they’ll provide you with some basic necessities like a Quran, Prayer Mat, Prayer wear etc.

Darul Arqam is a great place for muslims and non-muslims to learn about islam. At Darul Arqam you can get to meet many other fellow converts who are more than happy to share their knowledge with you, and guide you through this journey!

📚Going for Lessons:

- I started off with a very quick introduction to islam with an introductory session at Darul Arqam, called “Knowing Islam Session”

There are many free classes thats open to all, so feel free to sign up for the pre-conversion courses to learn more about islam! They teach you about the basics: like praying, and the basic pillars of islam.

It was really helpful and the best part of it is that the classes are conducted in English, and many other different languages, even in Mandarin, Tagalog etc!

☪️ My Conversion Ceremony:

- I was so nervous for my ceremony because I was afraid of being tested for my religious knowledge! (which at that time I wasn’t really confident in :p)

But the Ustad that conducted the conversion ceremony was really warm and friendly, he made me feel at ease and guided me through the whole process.

You would need to prepare some documents for the conversion, as well as to get 2 Male Muslim Witnesses to be there at the ceremony:

- Your NRIC or Passport details

- A passport sized photograph for your conversion card

- Your 2 witnesses’ NRIC or Passport details

There was a piece of paper provided that you would have to recite off, which is basically some doas and declarations that you’re doing this out of your own will and that Islam will now be your religion.

If you’re not confident with reciting your shahadah don’t worry! They have the transliterated words on that piece of paper for you to read!

After that, you fill in some paperwork and they’ll prepare your convert card for you!

📝Muslim Name:

- On the paperwork, you may choose to include a chosen Muslim name if you’d like, but it is not compulsory. You can also add an alias to your NRIC, if you want to.

In the past, a convert has to add their muslim name to their NRIC, but it is not compulsory now.

You can also choose not to have a muslim name and keep your name as it is!

🏡 After the Conversion Ceremony:

- After the documents have been signed and your card has been collected, you’re good to go!

It is recommended that you head home to take a purification bath, to commemorate your conversion for a fresh start as a muslim!

-

I hope this helps anyone out there who would like to know more, so feel free to talk to me if you’d like to know more! All the best guys~
